Frequently asked questions
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes, I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your needs, answer questions about how I work, and determine whether this feels like a good fit.
How do I know if we are a good fit?
A strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. My hope is that you'll feel heard, respected, and understood. The consultation and first session also give you an opportunity to decide whether my approach feels like the right fit for you.
What can I expect the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We'll explore what has brought you to therapy, discuss what you're hoping to gain from our work together, and begin developing an understanding of the experiences that have shaped your life. There is no expectation that you have everything figured out before you begin.
How do I get started?
The first step is simply reaching out. You can contact me through the website to book a complimentary 15-minute consultation or an initial appointment. We'll discuss what you're looking for, answer any questions you may have, and decide together whether we're a good fit.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. Some people come for support around a specific concern, while others choose longer-term therapy to deepen self-understanding and create lasting change. We'll regularly check in to ensure our work continues to align with your goals. Many clients also choose to return later for a few sessions during periods of change or when new challenges arise, knowing they have an established therapeutic relationship to come back to.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, I ask that you provide at least 48 hours' notice. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice, or missed without notice, may be subject to the full session fee.
How do you take payment?
Payment can be made by credit card or e-transfer.
Are your services covered by insurance?
Psychotherapy services are not covered by OHIP, but many extended health plans include coverage for sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist. I encourage you to confirm this with your insurer before beginning therapy.
Receipts for sessions not reimbursed by insurance can often be claimed as medical expenses on your income tax return.
